You’ll find everything from the Millionaire’s Walk past multi-million dollar mansions on the Mornington Peninsula to the 1000 Steps and 5km Kokoda Memorial Walk in the Dandenong Ranges.
Then there’s 100km of Phillip Island coast to explore, and the 100km Mornington Peninsula Walk. In the Yarra Valley, walk to the summit of Lake Mountain for 360 degree views of bush-covered hills.
Short to medium walks
On Phillip Island, walk the forest tracks on tiny Churchill Island or take the 7km clifftop George Bass Coastal Walk.
Both the Dandenong Ranges National Park and the Yarra Ranges National Park are crisscrossed with walks. The 2.4km return walk to Sherbrooke Falls, through ferns, century-old sassafras and mountain ash is a stunning introduction. On the Mornington Peninsula, take the 5km Bushrangers Bay walk from Cape Schanck or the 1.8 km circuit walk at Arthurs Seat State Park (the Peninsula’s highest point).
There are guided walks too, including the night walk in the Yarra Ranges National Park at Healesville, a 2-day walk from Arthurs Seat to Cape Schanck on the Mornington Peninsula, and an 8km walk around Yarra Valley wineries.
