There are numerous mountain bike trails and walking tracks throughout this region. For real challenges, tackle the 100km Mornington Peninsula Walk or the 1000 Steps/Kokoda Memorial Walk over 5km in the Dandenongs. Mountain bikers should point the pedals towards the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail or to Lake Mountain’s challenging trails.
On the Mornington Peninsula, go on seal and dolphin swims, sea kayaking, guided snorkel tours and dives, scuba diving around shipwrecks and kiteboarding. Phillip Island responds with a thrilling cruise to Seal Rocks where thousands of fur seals play in the waves, catamaran cruises, surf beaches and long coastal walks across the cliffs overlooking Bass Strait.
Fire and ice
Phillip Island’s Grand Prix track is internationally famous, and you can follow in the tyre tracks of the world’s best. Buckle in for an adrenalin-amping triple Hot Lap lightning ride around the circuit, or race a Go Kart on the replica Grand Prix track.
The Dandenong Ranges' Lake Mountain and Mt Donna Buang have year-round adventure, with cross-country skiing and snow play in winter, and walking tracks with magnificent views in the warmer months.
Horseriding, ballooning and more
Ride horses along an ocean beach or around wineries, go tree surfing in a maze garden, tackle a tree course with more than 60 obstacles, take a memorable dawn balloon tour.
