Breathe in the clear mountain air near the source of the Yarra River, feel the silence and enjoy the sense of wellbeing that envelopes you. Book an eco-retreat or cosy cottage and head out to explore this former gold rush town and the tall forests of mountain ash which surround it.
There are many beautiful walks radiating out from Warburton. Start with the three kilometre Yarra River Walk, which meanders through the town before taking a number of river crossings, including Story Reserve’s famous swing bridge. Take the hike to graceful La La Falls, or stroll through myrtle beech rainforest to the Ada Tree mountain ash which is over 300 years old.
You can walk through the treetops too, by taking the spectacular skywalk through canopies of giant eucalyptus trees which departs from the Mount Donna Buang Rainforest Gallery. In winter, the landscape magically changes when families flock here for snowplay.
If you love cycling, hop on your bike and cycle through farmland and bush from Warburton to Lilydale along the 38-kilometre Rail Trail. It follows the old railway line built in 1901 to transport local produce and timber, and treats you to some magnificent views.
