The Healesville Sanctuary put this rural town right on the international map, and it’s still one of the Yarra Valley’s major attractions. Bushland tracks lead you to more than 200 species including koalas, kangaroos, platypuses, reptiles and birds. There are lots of talks and presentations, and you could easily spend a whole day here.
Around Healesville, many wineries have become established and offer you a very laid back and informative tasting experience. The cafes and restaurants here are very proud of the region’s local produce, and feature it on their ‘regional and seasonal’ menus.
There are plenty of forest walks around Healesville, and many beautiful little parks are just perfect for picnics. Pick up a bottle of wine and some delicacies from the village, and you’re ready to settle down for a very relaxing lunch.
If you don’t feel like moving on, there are a number of lovely little cottages and B&Bs.
