If you’re planning a wine tasting tour through the Yarra Valley, you’ll become familiar with these little villages.
They’ve all been put firmly on the map through the growth of wineries in the Yarra Valley, and some of the best-known vineyards are located here.
Coldstream and Gruyere are known for the great names of Domaine Chandon (Moet et Chandon’s Australian vineyard) and Coldstream Hills, as well as boutique cellar doors including Medhurst Wines, Pimpernel Vineyards, Squitchy Lane Vineyard and Soumah Wines of Yarra Valley.
Coldstream is also the childhood home of Australia's famous Opera singer Dame Nellie Melba, and her Coombe Cottage remains in the family. It’s located at the junction of Maroondah Highway and Melba Highway, which was named in her honour.
Yering is the home of Yering Station, Victoria's first vineyard which established its cellar door in 1859. Yering Station hosts a very popular farmers’ market on the third Sunday of the month – bring your big carry bags for the fresh seasonal fruit, juices and vegetables, locally baked bread, biscuits, pies and fudge, jams and preserves, cheeses, coffee, pasta, locally grown flowers, olives, eggs, honey, meat and much more.
