Endless summer, almost endless villages…now welcome to Rye. This is another family favourite, with lots of holiday accommodation, a shopping strip and a very family friendly beach.
If you enjoy snorkelling, or want to introduce the kids to the underwater world, you can hire gear locally and then head for the Octopus’s Garden at Rye Pier. This is 200 metre underwater trail with signage introducing you to some of the locals…the pygmy seahorses which hide in the seaweed, octopuses popping out of the sand, sponges, sea stars, fish and rays. Rye also has an ocean beach, with magnificent walks along the clifftops.
Rye is very close to some of the Peninsula’s major attractions, including Moonah Links, which has hosted the Australian Open golf tournament and has luxury accommodation at Peppers Moonah Links. The Dunes Golf Links and Eagle Ridge Golf Course are two top courses nearby.
Peninsula Hot Springs is next to Moonah Links, and is ranked among the world’s best hot springs by Frommer’s Guide. There are now more than 30 bathing experiences, with the social Bath House, a traditional Turkish steam bath and the private Spa Dreaming Centre with tranquil bathing, luxurious treatments and massages.
